A year ago today, CatchLight launched Everyday Bay Area with a cohort of 15 eager, talented photographers as contributors. Since then, our roster has grown to 19 and includes image-makers and storytellers with diverse perspectives from all around the Bay. The stories they’ve shared have ranged from an intimate look at spirituality in the Bay Area’s South Asian community by Alpana Aras-King to a sneak peek of Pendarvis Harshaw’s project OGToldMe, which captures the wisdom of Oakland’s older generation Black men.
This past year, we presented to public school classrooms with our partners, the Everyday Projects, and to youth at First Exposures. We’ve showcased the work of not just the photographers in our cohort, but also the hard work of local non-profits such as Generation Citizen who are strengthening our community, and recently started a Weekend Community Feature to highlight some of the incredible imagery being created by the community that EDBA reaches. We also played a role in two major events put on by CatchLight and co-hosted another event with City Hope and Covo that featured the documentary work of one of our photographers, Brenton Gieser.
We’re also so close to hitting 2,000 followers on our feed, so if you aren’t already following us, head over to Instagram to do so and help us hit our next milestone!
Thank you to our partners for helping us to make this first year of EDBA a success: KQED, CALmatters, PhotoWings, The Everyday Projects, UPI & SF Camerawork.
Lastly, mark your calendars and join us for our upcoming public events:
