Founded in 2009 in San Francisco, PhotoPhilanthropy was committed to recognizing excellence in social documentary photography created in partnership with nonprofit organizations worldwide. In the six years that we ran the Activist Awards, we were proud to amplify the work of hundreds of photographers shooting “photography that matters” in 88 different countries, in conjunction with over 400 social agencies.
We remain deeply interested in images of hope, and creating visibility for the art, the story, the artist, and the social cause.
In 2015 we re-launched PhotoPhilanthropy as CatchLight, honing our focus on the intersection of visual storytelling and social impact. We share the quest for big ideas that challenge established thinking with like-minded media partners to foster broader distribution of the best stories across traditional and inventive new channels, in community, and through live + digital events.
